A1: Cheq UPI is a digital wallet designed specifically for foreign nationals and NRIs/OCIs traveling or residing in India, enabling secure transactions at over 55 million registered merchants across the country.
Q2: Who is eligible to use Cheq UPI?
A2: Both foreign nationals and NRIs/OCIs can use Cheq UPI. Note that NRIs with a foreign passport are categorized as foreign nationals, while those with an Indian passport have access to a different wallet type.
Foreign nationals from these countries are not allowed: Albania, Barbados, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cayman Islands, Haiti, Jamaica, Jordan, Mali, Malta, Morocco, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Philippines, Senegal, South Sudan, Syria, Turkey, Uganda and Yemen
Q3: Is there a fee to join Cheq UPI?
A3: Yes, there is a one-time joining fee of INR 999, payable after downloading the app. This fee facilitates the provision of a secure and efficient digital wallet service. Joining fees can be paid online using your international card. Joining fees can’t be paid through cash

Q4: How do I download the Cheq UPI app?
A4: The app is available for both Android and iOS devices. Visit your respective app store, search for “Cheq UPI,” and proceed to install/download the app.
Q5: Is the Cheq UPI app free to download?
A5: While the app itself is free to download, a one-time joining fee of INR 999 is required after installation.
Account Registration & Verification
Q6: How do I register for a Cheq UPI account?
A6: Start by downloading the app, verifying your SIM, filling in your passport details, and completing the physical verification process. Your account will be active post-verification.
Q7: What documents do I need for verification?
A7: Provide your passport details, including name, date of birth, and a selfie. Ensure all information is accurate and clear.
Q8: How long does the verification process take?
A8: The process is generally quick, but the duration can vary based on the accuracy of provided information and the time taken for in-person verification.
SIM Verification
Q9: How is my mobile number verified in Cheq UPI?
A9: Input your mobile number in the app to receive an OTP via SMS, WhatsApp, or email. Enter this OTP in the app to complete verification.
Q10: Do I need my International SIM to be active while using the app?
A10: Preferably, yes, especially at the time of account creation. Ensuring your international SIM is active during this period is crucial for a smooth verification process.
Q11: Can I use both an international and local SIM on a dual SIM phone?
A11: Yes, Cheq UPI works with both. Ensure the SIM you registered with (be it international or Indian) is active during the SIM verification process. Post-verification, it does not matter much which SIM is active.
In-person Verification
Q12: Where and how can I complete my in-person verification?
A12: In-person verification can be completed in select cities across India, either by visiting a branch or booking an agent through the app. Present your original documents during verification.
Q13: What documents are required for in-person verification?
A13: Foreign Wallet: Original Passport, Valid eVisa, Immigration stamp on the passport with the date of entry into India.
NRI Wallet (Indian Passport Holders): Original Passport, Foreign country’s driving license or any other document, and any Indian Identity Card like Aadhar or PAN.
Wallet Activation & Usage
Q14: How do I add money to my Cheq UPI wallet?
A14: After account verification, add money using international bank-issued credit/debit cards or net banking. Cash deposits are accepted at branches. Please note that there is an INR 5,000 limit on adding money for the first 24 hours.
Q15: Are there any charges for adding money to my wallet?
A15: The payment gateway applies a charge of ~2.95% (2.5% fee plus taxes) on the total amount added, which is directly billed to the user. Currency conversion is handled by the user’s bank, with no additional charges from CheqUPI.
Q16: How do I make payments using Cheq UPI?
A16: Make payments at registered merchants using scan & pay on QR codes or by sending money to the merchant’s UPI ID. No additional transaction fee is charged.
Payment Policy
Q17: Are there any limits on payments on Cheq UPI?
A17: Yes, The following limits apply to various payment out functions such as Scan & Pay, Pay to Contacts, Withdraw, Collect, and Intent. Users are encouraged to plan their transactions within these specified limits to ensure a seamless payment experience.
- All Transactions (Monthly Limit)
- Monthly Transaction Volume: Limited to INR 3,00,000
- All Transactions (Daily Limit)
- Daily Transaction Count: Maximum of 20 transactions per day
- Daily Transaction Volume: Limited to INR 1,00,000
- Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Transactions (Daily Limit)
- Daily P2P Transaction Count: Maximum of 10 transactions per day
- P2P is only allowed to Indian nationals as per RBI regulations
- All Transactions (First 24 Hours)
- Transaction Volume for New Users: Limited to INR 5,000 during the first 24 hours of account activation
- All Transactions (Hourly Limit)
- Hourly Transaction Count: Maximum of 5 transactions per hour
- All Transactions (Every 5 Minutes)
- Transaction Count: Maximum of 3 transactions every 5 minutes
- Per Transaction Limit
- Maximum Amount per Transaction: INR 80,000
- Note: This limit is product-specific and may vary for different CheqUPI services.
- Collect Requests (Daily Limit)
- Daily Collect Request Count: Maximum of 5 requests per day
- External Wallet Recharge
- Transaction Volume per Recharge: Limited to INR 5,000
Q18: What are the limits on adding funds to Cheq UPI?
A18: Users are advised to adhere to these limits when adding money to their wallet.

- Monthly Transaction Volume: Limited to INR 3,00,000
- Add Money (Daily Limit)
- Daily Transaction Count & Volume: Limited to only 2 transactions above INR 5,000 per day
- Add Money (Per Transaction Limit)
- Maximum Amount per Transaction: INR 70,000
- Note: This limit is product-specific and may vary for different CheqUPI services.
- Add Money (Same Amount Limit)
- Frequency for Adding the Same Amount: Only 1 transaction allowed every 5 minutes
Q19: How can I withdraw the unutilized funds?
A19: If you need to withdraw unutilized funds from your Cheq UPI account, reach out to our customer care team through the help section in our app.
Once your withdrawal request is received, Cheq’s team will initiate the process within 24 hours. You can expect to receive the unutilized funds in your source account within 8-10 business days, though the exact timeline may vary depending on your bank and other factors.
Refunds & Account Modifications
Q20: How does the refund policy work at Cheq UPI?
A20: We offer a no-questions-asked refund policy. Email us at contactus@terrafin.tech with your refund request and reason, and the amount will be credited back to your source account within 10-12 days
Q21: How do I change my registered phone number?
A21: Send an email to contactus@terrafin.tech with your old and new numbers and the reason for the change. Your request will be processed within 7 days.
